Auctions and Bidding
What is the Reserve price?
The reserve price is the lowest dollar amount a seller can accept for an item.
I was the highest bidder on an auction listing, but it ended, and the listing says, 'Reserve not met.' What does this mean?
You can only win an auction by meeting the lowest price a seller can accept (reserve price). You will know when you have met the reserve with your bid because the red ‘Reserve Not Met’ status will change to green text stating 'Reserve not met.'
Am I required to pay if I win an auction?
Yes, by bidding on an auction, you are entering into a legally binding contract with the seller to purchase an item(s) should you be deemed the winning bidder.
Can I retract a bid on an auction once I submit it?
No, bids are non-retractable. When submitting a bid on an auction, you enter a legally binding contract to purchase an item(s) should you be deemed the winning bidder.
How will I know if I’ve won an auction?
If you are the winning bidder, you will receive an email notification that you won the auction. You will also see an invoice generated in your account under My Account > Buying > Purchases.
What kind of notifications will I receive about an auction I am bidding on?
A notification email will be sent to you when you are outbid. If you are the winning bidder, you will be sent an email notification that you won an auction.
Does every bidder receive an email when the auction ends, or is it just the highest bidder?
Only the winning bidder and the seller are notified when the auction ends.
Are the notifications different for bidders vs. the highest bidder?
A few different emails are sent out for the following actions on a listing, including new bids, being outbid, and no sale.
What happens after I win?
An invoice is generated by the 750.Auction site, and you will be sent an email. The invoice is payable through the site under My Account > Buying > Purchases. You must first pay the Buyer’s Premium before the auction invoice can be paid.
What is a proxy bid?
Proxy bidding automatically places a bid on your behalf for the lowest amount possible up to the maximum bid set by you for an auction. Example: Buyer1 bids $7.50, and Buyer2 bids $10.00, with a bid increment set at $1.50. With a proxy bid in place, Buyer2's bid will be increased only to $9.00 to outbid Buyer1 and become the highest bid. The maximum bid set is kept private from other bidders, and the earliest bid is used to determine the winner if there is a tie.
Auction proxy bidding is a feature that allow individuals to place a maximum bid on an item ahead of time. The auction system then automatically bids on the individual's behalf, up to the specified maximum amount, whenever someone else bids on the item. The benefits of using a proxy bid in an auction include:
- Convenience: The individual does not have to actively participate in the auction to place a bid, which can be especially useful for those who may not be able to be present for the entire auction.
- Increased chances of winning: A proxy bid can help ensure that an individual is the winning bidder, by automatically bidding up to the maximum amount set.
- Better use of time: The individual can set their maximum bid ahead of time and then focus on other tasks, without having to constantly monitor the auction.
- More efficient bidding: By using a proxy bid, the individual can avoid overbidding, as the system will only bid up to the maximum amount set.
- Reduced stress: A proxy bid can help reduce the stress associated with bidding in real-time, as the individual can set their maximum bid ahead of time and then let the system do the work for them.
How do I set up a proxy bid?
Submitting a bid on an auction is counted as your maximum bid (proxy bid). When you bid on an auction, think of it as submitting the maximum amount you would pay for the item. The system will then account for the current highest bid and continue submitting the minimum bid increment on your behalf until either a) the auction ends or b) your proxy bid is met.
